We have watched (and sighed through) many a movie. Some directors wield the power to serve fitting tributes to the places they shoot in with their storyline and of course, marvelous cinematography. Verve gives you a guide to the perfect European summer with the help of a few master storytellers

Woody Allen’s Midnight in Paris
Location Paris, France
Setting Gil’s a true-blue American on a trip to Paris with his fiancée’s family. He steals out most midnights for an adventure that transports him back to the 1920s where he meets Picasso, Hemingway, the Fitzgeralds and a beautiful woman he falls in love with. You want to be in a Woody Allen narrative too. Admit it.
Everyone does it The Louvre, Eiffel Tower, perfume factories, Montmartre
But you must! St. Paul de Vence. Of white cobbled streets and olden dwellings, this is a little town that breathes art and where you’ll find an art gallery at every corner. Best place to be inspired.
C’est la vie! Cannes Film Festival at Cannes, France from May 14-May 25, 2014. Rub shoulders with celluloid royalty and watch some of the finest art films.

Phyllida Lloyd’s Mamma Mia!
Location Kalokairi Island, Greece
Setting Bride-to-be Sophie, staying in Kalokairi with her mother, is on a quest for her dad. Her mom’s old diary, an afternoon of good reads and wedding invites to potential fathers later, true drama unfolds. It also helps that Meryl Streep and Pierce Brosnan are crooning…ABBA!
Everyone does it: Acropolis at Athens, Meteora Cliffs, the Santorini whites.
But you must! Kitesurfing in Lefkada.
C’est la vie! Athens & Epidaurus Festival. A Hellenic art and culture festival commencing June 1, 2014.

Woody Allen’s Vicky Cristina Barcelona
Location Barcelona, Spain
Setting Another of Woody Allen’s gems, this is a story revolving around Vicky and Cristina’s trip to Barcelona where they meet Juan Antonio and his temperamental wife, Marie Elena. A beautiful cast in a beautiful city.
Everyone does it Roaring nightlife of Seville, architectural excellence of Granada, sizzling Madrid and the magnificent La Sagrada Familia Church at Barcelona.
But you must! Museo de la Bruges (Museum of the Occult) at Zugarramurdi. Spooky and unfailingly eerie, enjoy a trip to the city celebrating witchcraft.
C’est la vie! Sonar at Barcelona, Spain, from June 12 through 14 this year. One of the best EDM festivals in the world, Sonar offers three full days of thumping beats.

Richard Linklater’s Before Sunrise
Location Vienna, Austria
Setting Celine and Jesse meet on a train in Europe and decide to spend a day together in Vienna. The gorgeous countryside, quaint cobbled streets and their rather interesting conversation makes you want to jump off a train just to explore that one perfect romantic day.
Everyone does it Vienna State Opera, vibrant streets of Innsbruck Altstadt, trip up the Grossglockner Alpine Road.
But you must! Café Landtmann, Vienna; open since 1873. Freud used to enjoy his coffee here.
C’est la vie! The World Bodypainting Festival happens at Portschach, Austria from June 29-July 6, 2014. Imagine the possibilities.
