“If not now, then when? If not you, then who?” The invitation to the fundraiser hosted by Swades Foundation was irresistible. Hosted by Zarina and Rohinton Screwvala the charitable evening saw Mumbai’s A-listers walk in to be a part of the journey to empower rural Indians. The eloquent couple spoke straight from their heart about their vision for enriching the lives of countless people in the villages. The chief guest for the evening, Amitabh Bachchan, held the audience in his spell as he read out verses from his father’s work Madhushala. A fashion show had several celebrities like Sonakshi Sinha, Neha Dhupia, Malaika Arora Khan, Shiamak Davar, Leander Paes , Perizaad Zorabian and Ayan Mukherjee walk the ramp with people from the villages whose lives Swades has touched. The evening progressed into a lively auction that was hosted by Karan Johar, who with his trademark humour urged everyone to up the ante. The paddles went up fast and furious as the lots came under the metaphorical hammer.
