Around The World In Dalrymple’s Frames
English photographer Dominic Rouse once said, “Colour is everything, black and white is more”. And famed historian and author William Dalrymple shows the world the brilliance of monochrome through his show of photographs, The Writer’s Eye. Clicked on his smartphone, the images are a result of his travels across the world — during which he captured sights ranging from Golconda’s domes and the English countryside to Afghanistan’s ruins and Iran’s mosques.
The photo exhibition — curated by Siddharth Dhanvant Shanghvi — documents landscapes, histories and lives through a medium that Dalrymple explored in his college days. A book of the same name, comprising 60 images from this black-and-white photo series, will be released in conjunction with the show. ‘Photography can reveal quite a different side to a writer’s character and vision than the one revealed in their texts,’ says he. Here’s a chance to view the works of the award-winning writer in a unique light.
The Writer’s Eye opens at Grosvenor Gallery, London in June 2016.
