The Google Girl

Text by Shreya Shah

That girl from the Google ad is what Auritra Ghosh is known as the most, though she is a scene-stealing actor, dancer and performer as well

Twenty-six-year-old Auritra Ghosh did not expect such widespread, individual appreciation for her nuanced role in the Google ad-film. She plays a grand-daughter who reunites her grandfather with his best friend after years of being separated by Partition. Subtle, yet packed with emotion is how one would describe it, and her convincing character, too.

She says, “I trained as a Kathak dancer when I was young, and learnt contemporary and jazz. I’ve performed abroad in Muscat, Dubai and Belgium. As an artiste I felt the creative urge to go beyond dance. For me, acting was the natural progression.” Bollywood came knocking with Love, Breakups aur Zindagi as did independent ventures like All The Lost Souls and most recently, M Cream.

On the thunderously positive response to the ad film, she muses, “We were certain that this is going to be a great film, but no, I didn’t know I would be so well-recognised.”
