Power Player: Dipika Pallikal
Awards are no stranger to Dipika Pallikal for she has won several trophies on the European Junior Squash circuit, making her the first Indian to reach the top 10 of the WSA rankings. She has racked up several other firsts along the way, picking up an Arjuna Award in 2012 and finally the Padma Shri in 2014.
Highlights of the past year: Won the Macau Squash Open and the Meadowood Pharmacy Open of 2013, and got engaged to cricketer Dinesh Karthik.
Future plans: Competing at the Commonwealth Games and Asian Games later this year and hopes to make it into a top five spot.
About the Padma Shri: Has said that winning it so early in her career shows that she’s on the right track. Recognition for the sport is important as well.
