Killer Vocals

Text by Eva Pavithran

Shruti Pathak, the voice behind Mar Javan, is a singer to watch

It took five years for this Ahmedabad girl to bag her hit song Mar Javan from Fashion. Shruti Pathak is not complaining. It was a 2008 chart topper and won her several award nominations. Like most aspiring singers, the 26-year-old songstress initially had to join the remix bandwagon and sing title tracks for popular TV soaps. Then out of the blue, music director duo Salim-Suleiman offered her Mar Javan. “Salim was confident of me as a singer.” Payaliya from Dev D, which followed next, is also close to her heart. “I penned the lyrics and was involved right from the composition to the release, composer Amit Trivedi being a close friend.” Her two new releases, Dharma Production’s Jihaad with Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor and Soham Shah’s Luck, are next. The singer, who holds a Masters in psychology, dreams of opening a research centre and hospital for the mentally challenged where she plans to fuse her music and knowledge of psychology to their benefit. “Music is deeply therapeutic.”
