The Indo-American journalist — who worked with The Washington Post, The Wall Street Journal and Quartz — recently took over as managing editor for editorial strategy at the Los Angeles Times. Married to prominent artist Nitin Mukul, she has two children Naya and Riya. Interestingly, she was part of the founding team of India’s business daily, Mint.

ON HER JOB: “Directing coverage and strategy for one of the best newspapers in the world is the greatest honour.”

SUCCESS MANTRA: “Character over reputation. Don’t be someone you are not. Respect different working styles.”

INDIA CONNECT: “I was born in New York City to parents from Assam. I returned to Assam every three or four years as a child. In 2006, my husband and I moved there with our then toddler for two years.”

PREFERRED WAY TO UNWIND: “Have friends over for dinner. Read. Play Bollywood music while I run. Go to the gym and watch House of Cards or Orange is the New Black or Friday Night Lights.”
