Electrifying the Floor

His father and uncle are jazz guitarists; his music collection started building even before he was 10 and his high school graduation saw Anish Sood creating an ambience with two Sony Discmans and a live PA mixer.

“I loved collecting music and it was a natural progression to being able to share that with my friends and family. I was always that guy who knew how the sound system worked, what knobs to twist, and which button to press!”

Despite his escalating affinity for music, his parents were taken aback when their son, a product of mechanical engineering, chose to be a professional DJ. “Dance music wasn’t that big in India till about five years ago. But once I began playing regularly, they’ve been a constant pillar of support.”

At 24, Sood has shared stage space with international icons like David Guetta, Steve Aoki and Armin Van Buuren and has also released two singles with Ramona Arena. Cutting his own album is a self-confessed goal. “If you keep working hard with honesty and passion, people around you will take notice. Sounds very preachy, but it works!”

Finally with a plaudit performance at Enchanted Valley Carnival last year in December, Sood’s dreams have soared higher since. “I’ve been touring a lot in India and the response has been phenomenal everywhere. The focus for this year is to make a determined effort to break outside India.”
