WIFW Ramp Watch: Payal Pratap
Payal’s strong design basics and a mastery of rich embroidery were on display yet again; this time with an oriental flavour to it. The Kimono took centre stage and was seen in many avatars. Everything from the motifs to the obi sashes and the Okobo platforms to the Kanzashi hair-pin were spot on vis-a-vis the styling. Japanese stencil patterns and jacquard weaves in rich fabrics like satins, silk, velvets and felts with cutwork were painstakingly beautiful.
HIGHPOINTS: A well-researched collection; looked like actual costumes from the Far East moderated to a contemporary aesthetic.
SCOPE: The layering got a bit too heavy at times with the shape, texture and print all together being too overpowering. A need to
focus on lighter separates.
