Those in the know will agree that Vidya Zaveri is a woman with a flair for the visually appealing. Along with her husband, Shrenik Zaveri, Vidya creates precious baubles, with a focus on solitaires and wedding jewellery.

As a young wife, Vidya focused on her son, but found herself with a lot of free time once he became independent. She had always been interested in design and Shrenik suggested that she join him in the jewellery business. The first piece she created was a pair of earrings incorporating Basra pearls, baguettes and pear-shaped diamonds, and Vidya learnt on the job. “I made a few mistakes, but they helped me understand the process of creating jewellery better,” she says, adding that her husband taught her everything. While working by appointment only, they also have exclusive invite-only shows, typically just before Diwali. At any time, you can expect to find ready stock of 150 pieces, featuring diamonds, rubies, emeralds, Basra pearls and Baroque pearls, heavily influenced by the couple’s love of art and penchant for travel. Dealing exclusively in D, E and F diamonds in all jewellery pieces, all stones above half a carat are certified. They have recently begun incorporating vivid pink and intense yellow diamonds into their work, and their tradition of attention to detail has been put to good use. “We started with a few vivid pink diamonds and matched other stones to them for over 16 months to finally create a pair of earrings,” says Vidya.

Their dedication to their craft has earned the Zaveris an elite clientele that they are happy to call close friends, so much so that it sparked off another passion. Beginning with a request from a client in Lagos, Vidya has also been involved in very exclusive and carefully vetted matchmaking for the past two years. For the past seven years, with her partner Begum Farah Mir of the Afghani Royal family, Vidya has also presented elegantly ornate saris at exhibitions during the festive seasons.

With her passion for aesthetics and flair for design, Vidya brings a touch of beauty to Mumbai and Delhi with each one of her exhibitions.
