The Oscars 2015: It’s Show Time!
Text by Wyanet Vaz
As usual, The Oscar moments of the year were Patricia Arquette’s empowering speech, Lady Gaga’s tribute to The Sound of Music, and John Travolta’s 2.0 version of Oscar bloopers. On the red carpet, as we tilted a little more towards menswear, Neil Patrick Harris and David Burtka won ‘cute couple award’ and Jared Leto was the poster boy for the perfect beard pinboard. We aren’t one bit dampened to report that our macho counterparts owned it with sharp suits and emotional speeches, as J.K. Simmons summed it up with, ‘Call your mom, everybody.’

Scarlett Johansson
Tone-on-tone is big this season, and we’re glad Scarlett Johansson risked it with this custom Atelier Versace gown. The Swarovski collar piece borders on OTT, but with that sleeked-back hair do, no one’s complaining.
Rita Ora
There’s no such thing as too much grandeur, says Rita Ora’s look on the red carpet. The structured Marchesa gown with gold leaf embroidery was the yin to her pixie-cut yang.
Reese Witherspoon
Black, white and radiant all over, Reese Witherspoon effortlessly took the spot as red carpet’s sweetheart. In a stunning Tom Ford gown, she played it cool with her legally blonde waves and Tiffany & Co diamond jewels.
Rosamund Pike took to the red carpet in a crimson number from Givenchy. We love the intricate embroidery, hourglass silhouette and of course, the sharp slit.
David Burtka and Neil Patrick Harris
David Burtka and Neil Patrick Harris
If Neil Patrick Harris wasn’t cute enough, here’s one with his husband David Burtka topping our list of best dressed couples at The Oscars. Harris sported a grey Ermenegildo Zegna ensemble and his usual sense of humour.
Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan-Tatum
Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan-Tatum
Coming a close second is Channing Tatum looking dapper in Dolce & Gabbana, and Jenna Dewan Tatum in an overpowering Zuhair Murad gown. Even though Tatum is the official eye candy here, we couldn’t get our eyes off his wife!
Jared Leto
No shave November tripped into February. Sporting this Givenchy ensemble, Jared Leto makes even the boho man look cool.
Chrissy Teigen and John Legend
Chrissy Teigen and John Legend
The flattering dress by Zuhair Murad did justice to her perfectly sculpted legs. Chrissy teamed it well with oxblood lips. John Legend cleans up pretty well in this crisp number from Gucci.
Bradley Cooper
This three-piece suit from Salvatore Ferragamo fits snugly, as Bradley Cooper tops it up with a well-polished look. Who wants to take home an Oscar, when you can try for this!
Marion Cotillard
Marion Cotillard floated like Wordsworth’s cloud in this Christian Dior latticework gown. Don’t miss the the sweeping trail and sleek updo.
Lupita Nyong’o
In a custom Calvin Klein pearl and ivory dress, Lupita Nyong’o looked like a bauble herself. With Chopard jewels, and strings of pearls dominating the look, she left no room for error.
Keira Knightley
She has been owning the red carpet, and how! Keira Knightley looked poetic in this Valentino floral gown. She teamed it with a boho headband and Chanel fine jewellery.
Jennifer Lopez
One of our favourite looks of the evening was undoubtedly JLo in this voluminous gown from Elie Saab. The cleavage-baring neckline drizzled with dream-like embroidery, is exactly what we expected from the Get Right star.
Jennifer Aniston
Sporting an embellished Versace dress, we loved the transparent skirting on Jennifer Aniston. However, we did expect a little more Veronica over this Betty look.
Hannah Bagshawe and Eddie Redmayne
Hannah Bagshawe and Eddie Redmayne
Eddie Redmayne looked sharp in a navy tuxedo by Alexander McQueen. But what really upped his look, was the leading lady around his arm. Hannah Bagshawe also sported a McQueen creation. We loved the feather accents and embellished belt.
Gwyneth Paltrow
Gweneth Paltrow looked refreshing in a blush pink sleek gown from Ralph & Russo. We like her overall less-is-more look.
Felicity Jones
Upping her style at every award show, Felicity had a serious princess-moment at this one. The super-sized Alexander McQueen ball gown perfectly wraps up her win on the red carpet.
Emma Stone
Toping our best-dressed list, Emma Stone hit the red carpet in an open-back Elie Saab gown. We love the green, that clearly doubled as the shade of envy.
Julianne Moore
Julianne Moore’s gown from Chanel took 987 hours of work and 27 people to complete. Custom made by Karl Lagerfeld, the bustier long dress was nothing less than the Oscar she received. Kudos to Moore for topping the look with Chopard jewels and deep red lips.
