Soul Balming

Text by Wyanet Vaz

A stressed girl takes a quick break in the city…

When I’ve spent eight hours at work, it takes either a large bag of fries or the prospect of a weekend away to really make my day. In search of an alternative way to de-stress, I walk into the calm caress of Dhanraj Mahal. The warm monsoon breeze and bountiful greenery give me hope that only good can be found here.

Nestled in one of the crevices of the gorgeous property is The Palms Spa. After having stressed over the right massage – not deep tissue, but one that will put me in Zen mode – I settle for a lemongrass and green tea body scrub, which was recommended to help me genuinely ‘keep calm and carry on’.

A blast of calming aromatic scents takes over, and I am handed a chilled wipe and refreshing cranberry juice. It is so relaxing that even if there is nothing more in store, I’d still be satisfied. I am escorted into a softly lit room laden with flower petals and tea lights glimmering in nooks. As the therapist gently slathers the lemongrass and green tea scrub all over me, she works her way through my tense muscles, relieving knots and kneading away the stress. The scrub promises smooth and glowing skin, and with that joyful add-on I doze off to sheer serenity.

After a warm shower I test to see if all promises were kept. And as Dr Seuss would rightly remark, they were “truer than true”.
