#Preview: Anita Dongre’s Epic Love Collection at ICW 2016

Text by Tanisha Choudhury

The designer’s latest collection is for the free-spirited bride who loves a touch of tradition…

Anita Dongre brings her trademark feminine and luxurious boho-spiritedness to her latest collection. Titled Epic Love and about to show at the India Couture Week 2016, the collection is essentially what brides will be clamouring for come wedding season, later in the year. Below she tells us what to expect from the collection:

1. What is the inspiration behind your Epic Love couture collection?
“The Epic Love collection is inspired by Mughal gardens. Our muse – the young gypsy princess is free-spirited, yet embraces tradition in her own special way. Much like young brides today who enjoy what they wear rather than feel weighed down by it. Traditional silhouettes like the lehenga choli and sari are reinvented in contemporary silhouettes.”

2. What are some of the techniques that went into the making of the clothes?
Gota patti is a craft I love working with. It has always been a part of all my bridal couture outfits. The collection begins with chintz-inspired prints and moves on to jeweled toned solids.”

3. A piece that you would recommend from the collection?
All the new blouses we’ve done can be paired with heavy lehengas, shararas, a pair of jeans or a saree. They’re extremely versatile hence I would recommend the blouses.”

Below she shares some sketches from the show:
