Gucci Cruise Collection 2016 Decoded

Alessandro Michele’s collection for Gucci saw nerdy-looking models in vintage gear as they walked for individuality and romance

Three things that worked for Gucci’s Cruise collection 2016 was the retro throwback, gypsy undertones and the classic oversized frames. Alessandro Michele (with a mission to fill in the big shoes of Frida Giannini) manages to uphold the signature Gucci preamble and yet add his own spunk to the collection.

Staged in New York City, in a bare-bricked warehouse and embellished with Moroccan souk rugs, the environment was almost like a Valencia filter: muddy yet beautifully vintage. Michele turned it on with grannified clothes as romantic dresses clashed with flouncy necklines and pleated skirt suits. Zoom in, and you will notice the miniature lion-heads, intricate piping and the pearl double-G buttons proving that the devil was indeed in the detailing.

Even though wanderlust may seem like the most over-used word of the decade, it is probably one that best describes this platter of vintage.
