Global Gamechanger: H&M X Kenzo

Text by Saumya Sinha

When fashion takes a stand…

The Swedish high-street giant’s latest collaboration with Kenzo, helmed by Humberto Leon and Carol Lim is not just a maximalist’s dream come true, but comes with a deeper message. Keeping with the signature vibe of Kenzo, the new collaboration taps into global youth culture, sending a powerful message about individuality and diversity. With celebrated personalities as brand ambassadors, talking about their struggles and reality, the point that ‘you must be who you are in order to be who you want to be’ is loud and clear.

In these creatively visualised videos, candid notes such as ‘There is no perfect nation’, ‘In all honesty, I haven’t read a book since I was in high school’ and ‘I am the face of a refugee’ come from the likes of Chance the Rapper, model and philanthropist Iman and singer-songwriter Suboi. They and many others gently push the envelope from behind the seams of ruffled dresses and jaunty jumpers and inspire others to do the same.

Check out the films by Swedish director Max Vitali featuring candid interviews with the ambassadors:

About the collection:

This collaboration is a mix of street style and outré, awash in elaborate animal and garden prints with few reversible garments – a hallmark of the Paris-based brand. Kenzo’s signature kaleidoscopic jungle is for the bold dresser who doesn’t shy away from wearing OTT patterns and textures, sometimes from top to toe. Keeping with the signature vibe of Kenzo, the new line taps into global youth culture, aiming to build a larger fanbase for both brands. A remix of the archival history of Kenzo, the jungle print numbers honour Kenzo Takada, the Japanese designer who founded the label in 1970.

The Kenzo x H&M collection will be available in over 250 stores worldwide from November 3rd.
