SANJAY GARG
Known for creating Indian rituals and culture soaked six-yards under his sari label, Raw Mango, Sanjay was a surprise package who made us aware that Indian wear can be opulent yet tasteful while retaining all its ethnicity. The debut line for his new brand Sanjay Garg, which was a unique mix of handwoven heritage fabrics (Varanasi brocades and silks) cut in Indian and contemporary silhouettes showed no signs of discomfort at being a first timer. Garg played with shapes such as the ghagra-choli and modernised the humble kurta by teaming it with modish pants in rich hues of fuchsia pink, green, purple and glistening gold. The unexpected happened with the sight of mid and full-length empire-line dresses, tea-length skirts and cropped quilted jackets that marked his arrival in contemporary garb. The heritage textile maverick proved his excellence with flying colours.
