Which is your Chanel?

Text by Wyanet Vaz

In a monochromatic photoshoot for Chanel, Karl Lagerfeld unites Kristen Stewart, Alice Dellal and Vanessa Paradis, as they unveil the ‘it’ bags of the season

If you didn’t already know, there is a Chanel bag for everyone. Be it the classic Flap Bag, the Graffiti Backpack, or the Lego Clutch, the French house knows how to keep their fan club cheering. This summer, Karl Lagerfeld celebrates two icons – the 11.12 and the Boy bag, and simultaneously launches the new Girl Chanel handbag. That explains the buzz behind their mysterious Instagram posts, with ‘girl’ scribbled across a blackboard (in case you were wondering). Shot by Karl Lagerfeld, Kristen Stewart, Alice Dellal and Vanessa Paradis front this campaign. We give you a complete lowdown on each creation, along with a fashion guide to prepare you for the season’s hottest launch.

The 11.12 Handbag
Kristen Stewart speaks: “For me the iconic handbag is just like the House of Chanel, fundamental and modern.”
Buy it for: the herringbone quilting, which was conceived by Gabrielle Chanel. Watch out for Lagerfeld’s reinterpretation of the iconic stitching.
Wear it with: a 60s shift mini dress, or any contemporary streamlined silhouette.

The Boy Chanel Handbag
Alice Dellal speaks: “I like to wear the Boy across the body as it is inspired by the cartridge bag – the design for hunters, as it should be worn. It’s the only bag I’ve felt comfortable wearing, with my casual clothes.”
Buy it for: the denim patchwork which gives the bag a downtown industrial look. The bag brings with it the right amount of androgyny for a sleek punk look.
Wear it with: a utilitarian jacket, or military prints.

The new Girl Chanel Handbag
Vanessa Paradis speaks: “I like the fact that it blends in with clothes or against the skin with infinite gentleness.”
Buy it for: the functional aspect of this new arrival. Perfect for the travel season, this carry-all is luxury-boho.
Wear it with: a printed maxi dress.
