Sizzle Or Fizzle: Who Wore What At The 2016 Emmys
Text by Sadaf Shaikh
Last night at the 68th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards 2016, host Jimmy Kimmel resorted to a slightly unconventional mode of transport when he hitched a ride to the venue atop Daenerys Targaryen‘s fearsome dragon. That may have tipped the scales in favour 0f fantasy drama television series Game of Thrones which officially broke the record for the highest number of Emmy Awards won by any fictional series at 38 awards. The kids from Stranger Things handed out peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, (7,000 of them!) courtesy of Kimmel’s mom, to the star-studded crowd with a note cautioning them against getting drunk. Andy Samberg evoked the green-eyed monster in women across the globe when Kit Harington went down on one knee in front of an unsuspecting audience to propose marriage and eternal love to him.
While the stars got up to their usual shenanigans and good-natured jibes, they really took the LA heat a few degrees higher with their spectacular red carpet fashion.

All eyes were on the 'Quantico' actress as she sashayed down the red carpet in a cascading, scarlet red Jason Wu creation.
The supermodel looked ethereal in a shimmering bodycon gown by Naeem Khan complete with fuchsia lips.
The 'Mother of Dragons' looked fit to rule the seven kingdoms in a fitted nude gown by Atelier Versace with a ruched top and a pointed neckline.
The 'Bad Moms' actress opted for a billowing tropical gown with a plunging neckline by Zuhair Murad. We love that she chose to experiment with patterns!
The 'Suits' star wore a navy Jenny Packham made only more regal with a Judith Leiber clutch.
The actress dazzled in a flowing Oscar de la Renta gown in jewel green with matching accessories.
Although the 'Modern Family' star simmered in this figure-hugging Versace gown, we wish she would experiement with her silhouettes as we've seen her in similar contours one too many times now.
The 'Orange is the new Black' star showed us why she's on beauty duty at Litchfield prison in this bold Naeem Khan gown.
The 'Empire' star oozed oomph on the red carpet in a bright yellow Vera Wang gown with a smoulder to match.
The 'Game of Thrones' actress traded her signature Winterfell robes for a sensuous black Valentino number and accessorised with a pair of statement earrings from Forevermark.
True to her stylish character in 'Modern Family', the actress wore an embroidered peplum bodice with two trains by Monique Lhuillier with black trouser pants.
The 'A lot like Love' actress wore a black gown with yellow and white embellishments by Altuzarra and carried a box clutch.
America has come a long way since her 'Ugly Betty' days with her plunging navy Jenny Packham jumpsuit which was adorned with sequins.
The 'Modern Family' actress stunned in an illusion gown with Art Deco-inspired silver beading by Yousef Al-Jasmi.
The 'People v. O.J. Simpson' actress who won an Emmy, added a pop of colour to the red carpet in this deep-v Prada gown with shiny fringe and silver, brooch-like accents.
The 'Orange is the new Black' inmate showed us that she cleans up well in her custom Sally LaPointe gown complete with a white cape.
The pregnant 'Scandal' actress needed no camera flash as she glowed on the red carpet in a strapless Brandon Maxwell gown with cutouts. Wearing her hair natural only added to the perfection.
We think that The 'Homeland' star's Schiaparelli gown was just too much gold, especially with the tan. We wish she had opted for something like the previous year's purple Prada gown.
The 'Fargo' star reminded us why black is eternal in a Givenchy couture gown with intricate hand-sewn jet beads.
The 46-year-old 'Modern Family' star defied age in a white Lela Rose dress with a ruffled back.
The supermodel showed us that she still has it in a sparkling Michael Kors dress with an assymetrical design.
The 'Game of Thrones' star's Mark Lupfer dress with floral motifs was a far cry from last year's pink quilted dress. We are loving her real-life transformation from innocent to hard core.
The 'Veep' nominee who won an Emmy for her performance didn't do so well on the red carpet with her Carolina Herrera gown. The black polka dots on the sheer were a jarring combination with the nude fabric underneath.
The 'Walk to Remember' actress' Prabal Gurung dress was an endearing ode to the 2000's with its tiers, ruffles, layers and criss-cross halter neck.
The former 'Game of Thrones' wildling swapped her trademark nondescript attire for a backless Philosophy di Lorenzo Serafini gown cinched with a black belt.
The model kept it classy in this beautifully folded strapless dress by Zac Posen which alluringly accentuated her svelte figure.
The 'How to get away with Murder' star opted for a fucshia Marchesa gown with patterned cutouts at the neck. We wish she'd gone with nude lips instead of the same colour palette as her dress.
Although we give credit to the 'Parks and Recreation' actress for venturing out of her comfort zone of black and navy gowns, this sequined number by Pamella Roland is definitely not becoming on her.
The 'Avengers' actor looked every bit the God he plays in his perfectly tailored Gucci tuxedo.
The 'Modern Family' star looked nothing like his goofy onscreen character in a sharp Ted Baker tuxedo.
The Lord Commander looked dapper in a Givenchy tuxedo with his trademark Jon Snow curls.
The actor who won an Emmy for his performance in 'Mr.Robot' wore a crisp white Dior tuxedo.
