Beauty Notebook: Super Practical Beauty Trends

Text by Aakriti Handa. Make-up by Fat Mu for Lakme Fashion Week SR 16

Try out these trends that don’t require a ton of effort

1. Trend: Grunge eye

Spring-summer is mostly about pops of colour with natural highlights and contouring. This season, the noughties look is back, oozing out a care-free vibe. The look supports thick, boyish eye brows, and bold, floating eyeliners that were also seen at Fendi SS2016. The bronzed cheeks, nude lips and dishevelled chignon add much to this look.

2. Trend: Mild magic

This look is fairly demure with soft feline eyes and subtle make-up. Contouring is minimal with a dusty peach blush swept across the apples of the cheek. A less opaque pink eye shadow is used to brighten the eyes, and a creamy rose lip colour polishes the look. This no make-up look saw its return on the J.W. Anderson runway at London Fashion Week this year.

3. Trend: Summer dust

The sand-swept look has been replaced with a light tan. But, what steals the show are the iridescent sequins scattered around the inner and outer corners of the eyes all the way to the temples. While Delpozo tweaked the look with glitter and silver fairy dust at New York Fashion Week 2016, Manish Arora introduced rainbow colours to make the look more whimsical. The lids are lightly gilded, adding colour and drama to the look. A nude-peach lip colour and a rather bare-looking face suit it best.

4. Trend: Shaded strokes

One of the biggest trends this season is gradated make-up. Cooler shades are washed down to an ivory to lighten the inner corner of your eyes, and topped with slightly gilded lids. Fuller brows and thick mascara has prominently seen a comeback. The look has a bit of contouring with a creamy pink lip colour and a wash of blush on the cheekbones.
