The Blues Are Back

The Mahindra Blues Festival 2014 will enthral Mumbai’s audiences with an ensemble cast of grammy award-winning performers

It is reputed to be Asia’s foremost Blues celebration – one that aficionados await with bated breath every year and release it in a cheer only when the bands get up on stage to wow their fans. This year too the Mahindra Blues Festival 2014 is ready to rock Mumbai with a line-up of acclaimed talents.

So, Mehboob Studios is the venue of choice again – and as Mumbai still retains a little of the winter nip, the festival promises to up the excitement with heady Blues notes. The festival’s line-up includes Grammy Award-winning Bluesman Jimmie Vaughan, as well as the Tedeschi Trucks Band, with special guest Doyle Bramhall II, Lil’ Ed & The Blues Imperials, Zac Harmon and India’s own beloved Blues bands, Soulmate and Blackstratblues.

The fans are sure to put their hands together vigorously for Texas-based Jimmie Vaughan, a four-time Grammy Award winner. Yet another much-applauded Blues performer, the remarkable Grammy Award-winning Tedeschi Trucks Band (Derek and Susan Tedeschi), will highlight at the festival this year. It grabbed the Best Blues Album award at the Grammy Awards 2012. Another talented performer from a Blues family, special guest Doyle Bramhall II, will also make his stellar appearance here.

And diehard Blues fans cannot afford to miss Lil’ Ed and the Blues Imperials band. Here, one can look forward to a dose of the songs of Lil’ Ed’s native city, Chicago, that paint the diversity of the Blues spectrum today. To add to this line-up, a founder member of the board of directors of the Blues Spectrum, Zac Harmon, will touch the core of the audience with his soulful, passionate Blues numbers.

No Mahindra Blues Festival can be complete without India’s very own Blues performers. The Meghalaya-based band, Soulmate, perhaps India’s most prominent Blues-rock band, is composed primarily of the singers and guitarists Rudy Wallang and Tipriti Kharbangar. This year Soulmate is all set to add a dash of ‘new’ into their mix, adding to a line-up of traditional and folk musicians. What fans can look forward to is the launch of their new album here. And, India’s second talent, Blackstratblues, comes ready to wow the crowds with soul-stirring sounds.

Now in its fourth year, the Blues Festival has gained a loyal following as a diversity of Blues genres bring together Indian, international, young and older fans together for one pulsating weekend of Blues music. The performances take place on multiple stages…making the Mahindra Blues Festival a wonderful way to chill in the last few days of winter.

The Mahindra Blues Festival will be held on February 15-16, 2014 Mehboob Studios, Bandra, Mumbai. Further information available at mahindraBlues@mahindra.com or www.mahindraBlues.com
