In Search of A Dream With Kartik Sood
Text by Huzan Tata
Inspiration sometimes lies in the most ordinary things — stories, for instance. Interpreting the art of storytelling and oral cultures through his paintings is upcoming artist, Kartik Sood. A nominee on Forbes India’s 30 Under 30 list in 2015, Sood reinterprets everyday scenes in paintings that are reminiscent of modern plays and folklore. Working with shades of green and red, the artist, who shuttles between New Delhi and Baroda, creates ink drawings that seem to belong in a fairytale book. These dream-like artworks interplay with texts by author Manoj Nair, and both creations together form short stories. ‘Subtle in colour, my works are autobiographical, inventive and dislocated. My stories are about reality as I perceive it, but often they lose the essence of reality…and turn into fictitious tales,’ he says about his visual artworks.
In Search Of A Dream And Other Stories is on display at Latitude 28, New Delhi until March 1, 2016
