For many creative souls, the journal is the heart of their discipline. Whether for sketches, scribbling of ideas, jotting of memories, or even using the bound copies in their artworks – books are a common factor that bind many artists. In a fascinating group show curated by Rukminee Guha Thakurta, 25 artists’ books – featuring their works of art – are on display. Sketchbooks, scrapbooks, study books and books dedicated to friends or lovers, the books feature works that are both humourous and dark, enlightening and enriching. And each one allows the viewer into the most private worlds and thoughts of the creators.

Artistes whose works are on display include Sunandini Basu, Himanshu & Aqui, Nida Ghouse, Sohrab Hura, Priya Kuriyan, Prashant Miranda, Rohit Saha, Dayanita Singh, Chaitanya Solanki, Adira Thekkuveettil, Nityan Unnikrishnan and Roy Varghese, among others.

Zones of Privacy is on display at Chatterjee & Lal, Mumbai (01/18, Kamal Mansion Floor 1, Arthur Bunder Road, Colaba) until September 3, 2016
