Sakti Burman Reveals The Beholder’s Share
Embracing two cultures and inspired by mythology, Renaissance art and Ajanta cave paintings, eminent artist Sakti Burman creates dreamlike canvases. His latest show, The Beholder’s Share, features these paintings, as well as recent sculptures, drawings and lithographs. Each painting is reminiscent of a fresco, and takes the viewer into a different realm, a magical world. As cultural theorist Ranjit Hoskote aptly puts it, ‘To enter the landscape of his paintings with Sakti Burman is to submit to the ministrations of a magical guide: with the gentle artist for company, we find ourselves engaging with fiction and allegory, autobiography and myth’.

The Beholder’s Share is on display at Art Musings, Mumbai (1 Admiralty Building, Colaba Cross Lane) until March 10, 2016
