Nirantar By S. H. Raza
How many people do we know, who even after working for almost eight decades, are still excited to pursue their passions? Master artist and recipient of the Padma Vibhushan, S. H. Raza, who turned 94 in February, presents his latest show, Nirantar. His famous Bindus, which are synonymous with the artist, make their way to his new canvases as well.
“I am inspired by creativity and imagination, and by the belief that all of us could contribute towards making this world better and beautiful,” explains Raza, about what keeps him going. And who are the artists whose works he enjoys? “Over the years, I’ve admired Ram Kumar, Akbar Padamsee, Tyeb Mehta, V. S. Gaitonde and younger artists like Atul Dodiya, Manish Pushkale, Sujata Bajaj and Seema Ghuraiya,” says the nonagenarian.
Raza, for whom painting is like meditation, hopes that his creations bring out the earth’s inherent splendour. “To understand the world and my place in it is what motivates me to work,” he concludes.
Nirantar is on display at Akar Prakar, Kolkata until April 9, 2016 and at Art Musings, Mumbai until April 30, 2016.
