Among India’s greatest female artists is Nasreen Mohamedi, who was born in Karachi in the 1930s, and spent the better part of her life engaged with the creative medium. A retrospective of her artworks forms the inaugural show of USA’s Met Breuer, the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s newest program. The exhibition brings to viewers over 150 creations in various media including oil paintings, collages, drawings, water colours and photographs. One of the pioneers of non-objective art in the country, Mohamedi remains an enigma in the global art world.
The exhibition has been organised by The Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, Madrid, with the collaboration of the Kiran Nadar Museum of Art, New Delhi.
The Nasreen Mohamedi retrospective is on display at The Met Breuer, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, USA until June 5, 2016.
