In His Shoes
“The history of mankind influences my work,” says Abdul Tawwab Khan, designer and owner of Alba.t.k. Graduating FDDI and working about four to five years at a UK-based design studio, Abdul now gets to play with and work at his childhood love, shoes. His brand, which originally catered to men is set to branch out to men’s accessories soon. And it is attention to detail and to his craft that he emphasises. He extends the beauty-is-skin-deep analogy to his work. “Shoes can look beautiful from the outside but how it looks and feels on your feet is also important. Footwear is still not considered a fashion element in India and this is the challenge. I have to make it the most important accessory.” Hard at work, Abdul is currently working on his new collection which he will showcase at his October show in Lakmé Fashion Week. “You will find a lot of new and exciting accessories for men this year,” he promises.
