The Fashionable Life of Freida Pinto

Text by Tanisha Choudhury

From her Slumdog Millionaire days to being an ambassador for Girl Rising, we trace her sartorial evolution…

The release of Slumdog Millionaire in 2009, and the critical acclaim that the film garnered, catapulted then-newcomer Freida Pinto to international fame. Since her first appearance, she has been walking international red-carpets and hasn’t made many sartorial missteps along the way. Pinto’s style has always been polished and classic in a modern way. Not one to wear too much volume, she prefers slim silhouettes with a feminine or edgy touch, sometimes both.

While her initial fashion choices were more occasion-appropriate and devoid of a signature style, over time, her choices have become more confident and refined. She now perfectly balances Hollywood glamour with understated modernity. The pink crystal-studded Michael Angel gown she wore at Cannes in 2012 is a perfect example of her refined sensibility. We especially love her ruffles-on-ruffles look worn at a Chanel show and the feathered Michael Kors gown she wore to the Cannes red carpet in 2014. These sartorial choices work all the more because of the nonchalance with which she wears them. Another example of this is the short, plunging Elie Saab dress she wore when she hosted the pre-Oscar party this year as the ambassador of the Girl Rising initiative. Whether she’s wearing high-street brands like H&M or high-fashion ones like Ferragamo, her looks always seem effortless but impeccable.

Her make-up and hair are flawless and serve to complement her clothes and enhance her features. While earlier she preferred nude lips paired with smoky eyes, the last few years have seen her become more experimental with bolder lips in bright or dark colours.
