12 Automatic Watches That Will Power On

Text by Simone Louis

Automatic watches harness energy through the natural motion of the wrist — we pick the best new luxury models

Tag Heuer

Merely six months after the Carrera Heuer-01 was released, the brand is back with the Carrera Heuer-02T, an impressive COSC-certified automatic chronograph. The watch also houses a lightweight tourbillon inspired by the Monaco V4’s tourbillon, which has central sections made from titanium and a carbon top.

Cartier

Introducing the maison’s first skeleton movement with automatic winding, the Clé De Cartier Automatic Skeleton Calibre 9621 MC is a great example of the brand’s ingenuity. Enhanced by an open-worked design and bridges in the shape of the numerals III, VI, IX and XII, it is fitted with a 950/1000 palladium case and a black alligator strap.

Frederique Constant

The new Slimline Auto Heart Beat houses the FC-312 calibre, one of the most slender automatic movements in its category, which drives the heartbeat, hours and minutes functions. Graced with either a black or brown delicate alligator leather strap, the watch is offered in stainless steel or in a rose-gold-plated version.

Chanel

Lending a fresh twist to a timeless collection, the French luxury house draws inspiration from the mirrors in their atelier at 31 Rue Cambon in Paris for the new J12 Mirror. Numerals seemingly hover on the dial’s mirror, elegantly complemented by a sparkling white bracelet.

Montblanc

The best thing about the new 4810 Chronograph Automatic besides the updated movement — automatic calibre MB 25.07 with a 46-hour power reserve — is the dial. It features the familiar silvered guilloche with an exploding star pattern, along with applied red-gold-plated Roman numerals.

Piaget

Beating to the rhythm of a Manufacture Piaget 534P mechanical self-winding movement, the Altiplano Gold Bracelet collection is characterised by pure lines. It also features an understated dial graced by extremely slim double or single-baton-type hour markers, swept over by slender hands.

Christophe Claret

Inspired by a gold bust of Roman emperor Marcus Aurelius unearthed in 1939 at Avenches, Switzerland, the captivating Aventicum timepiece features a small-scale reproduction of this treasure in gold, 3-mm high and micro-engraved. The patented sapphire-winding rotor of the automatic movement can be admired through the back and is embellished with five Roman Gaul racing chariots.

IWC

A simple yet genteel creation, the Pilot’s Watch Automatic 36 is also the smallest watch in the brand’s repertoire at 36mm and is ideal for women as well as men with slimmer wrists. Automatic with 42 hours’ power reserve, it comes with three types of dials to choose from.

Officine Panerai

The very first Radiomir 1940 watch to have a white dial, the Radiomir 1940 3 Days Automatic Acciaio – 42mm blends vintage and modern in an excellent manner. And, as indicated by the name, this model’s movement boasts three days of power reserve and features a micro-rotor.

Rado

The cool metallic shine of plasma high-tech ceramic gives the HyperChrome Automatic Chronograph Tachymeter a sophisticated look while maintaining a sporty personality. The ceramic bezel is engraved with a tachymetric scale which is filled with white Super-LumiNova, complemented by rose-gold hands and case sides.

Raymond Weil

A tribute to the brand’s watchmaking roots and its ties to the world of music, the Automatic Maestro impresses with its elegant and refined lines. The mechanical movement is elevated by a 38-hour power reserve while the polished stainless-steel case perfectly balances the black dial and strap.

Omega

Dewdrop-shaped beads crafted from 18-carat red or yellow gold come together to form the glamorous, fluid bracelet of this De Ville Prestige edition. Not only does the five-link bracelet have a charming butterfly clasp, but the watch features a golden butterfly design complemented by white mother-of-pearl and diamond indexes.
