From the latest trends to try to pitfalls every bride should avoid, the veteran designer has got you covered

The designer, whose clothes are rooted in the traditional are also instantly and easily wearable, and we mean that in the best way. A part of the reason for her immense popularity with the NRI crowd is that her designs are recognisably Indian, have just a touch of that Bollywood glamour and still manage to fit into their wearer’s global lifestyle. Anita Dongre, who has been in the business for almost two decades, dispenses wise words of wisdom for to-be brides.

The Anita Dongre bride…
“A fiercely independent, modern woman. She is confident. She loves Indian crafts and textile. Someone who wears her clothes with panache.”

Trends to try this season…
“A key trend is to go completely monotone this season. The blouse, dupatta and lehenga are all in one colour. And if it’s a print, the same print runs from the blouse to the skirt and to the dupatta. The entire ensemble being a single colour gives a great sense of length and height”.

Pitfalls to avoid…
“Overdoing it, with very heavily embroidered outfits. It can weigh the bride and her personality down. It is important that she is comfortable, looks beautiful and her persona comes through on her most important day.”

Evergreen bridal trends…
“The traditional lehenga-choli and sari.”

A look for the bohemian Indian bride…
“Florals on a cheerful palette of pinks, reds, indigo…”

Golden rule…
“It’s the most special moment — enjoy it and let your radiance shine through.”

For the sangeet ceremony…
“A beautiful printed lehenga with pockets and a bohemian blouse.”

Recommendation from the Epic Love collection…
“All the new blouses we’ve done can be paired with heavy lehengas, shararas, a pair of jeans or a sari. They’re extremely versatile.”
