An Extended Play

Text by Huzan Tata

Travel to old havelis and remember a bygone era with Karam K Puri’s sepia-esque photographs

Revisiting the times of Maharajas and Nawabs, and walking through their homes is something few of us can only dream of. But now, lovers of royalty and history can experience this bygone era through Karam K Puri’s lens.

The reputed photographer presents his latest show of 24 images, E.P.:Extended Play, that is the result of his travels to havelis and royal abodes across the country. Shot both on film and digital cameras, the photographs brilliantly capture the lost opulence and lifestyles of the past royals.

As Renu Modi, director of Gallery Espace, says, “the exhibition takes the audience on a journey to spaces lost in time and consumed in stillness”.

E.P.:Extended Play is on display at Gallery Espace, New Delhi, (16 Community Centre, New Friends Colony) until August 8, 2015.
