On the Bright Side with Radhika Madan

Text by Wyanet Vaz

Verve enjoys a fizzy conversation with the soap star

When asked what she does on set, Radhika Madan quips, “I cry!” The leading star of Meri Aashiqui Tum Se Hi is a typical Delhi girl (forgive the stereotyping) and is not one bit like her alter ego – Ishani.  While we chatted over a platter of cheesy fries and all things unhealthy, Radhika is currently busting some moves on a dance reality show and of course, dreaming big.

Hometown:.. “New Delhi.”

Facing the camera for the first time… “I was not at all nervous. I love being in front of the camera and getting clicked.”

Meri Aashiqui Tum Se Hi in 3 words… “Life-changing experience.”

You vs Ishani… “We are poles apart. Ishani is very sweet, subtle and she doesn’t talk so much. But I am very talkative and a complete tomboy. I can never cry and for this role, I have to cry all the time.”

Favourite actors… “Kareena Kapoor and Ranbir Kapoor.”

Favourite TV shows… “I watch Sex and the City. But on Indian television I watch my own show!”

Inspirations… “There’s no particular person. I am inspired by everybody around me. I listen to their journey and understand where they are coming from. You can’t judge anyone. So, everyday, someone or the other inspires me.”

Dream role… “To star in Jab We Met 2!”

Evergreen movies… “Andaz Apna Apna, Jab We Met and Kuch Kuch Hota Hai.”

3 things you do on set… “I cry, cry and I cry.”

Travel wish list… “Miami.”

On your bucket list… “To have a bachelorette in Vegas, and to leave my mark wherever I go.”

In my beauty bag… “I actually hate using make-up. But I always have kajal and a bar of chocolate.”

Support system… “My parents.”

Motto in life… “Live life to the fullest. Do whatever you want to do. And never regret anything.”

Usual hangouts… “I haven’t explored Bombay at all. But I love Marine Drive. Since I only have time from 2 am to 5 am, I know all the joints where you get midnight snacks like bun maska and idlis.”

On your playlist… Meri aashiqui ab tum hi ho… (she bursts into song). I love Sufi music, and Coke Studio.”

Success to you is… “Enjoying what you are doing.”
