The Skin Whisperers

Text by Faye Remedios

The who’s who of the celebrity world are happy to leave the fate of their complexions in their trusty hands. We get all the scoop from these top dermatologists about their beauty secrets and the skin treatments that have earned them a cult following.

Chiranjiv Chhabra

Why you should know her: With a lifetime of knowledge under her belt, she firmly has her pulse on all things beauty, from what ingredients are set to achieve cult status (matcha, kaolin and camel milk) to educating you about how sunscreen needs to be applied every two hours even if you are indoors; “Most Indians don’t have this habit and this really affects your skin,” she says.

What are her credentials: A force to be reckoned with in the world of skin, Chhabra, director and consultant dermatologist at the Skin Alive clinics, has a list of impressive credentials to her name, among which is the fact that she is a founder-member of the Indian Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons.

What’s her opinion on present-day skincare: “Millennials are the highest and heaviest buyers of skincare. Also, these days, consumers are savvy — they know their hyaluronic acids from their peptides and they demand products and futuristic gadgets that genuinely make a difference. They are opening up to new technology and treatments like Botox or face-lifting,” she enthuses. But she is quick to point out the downsides too. “Social media puts a lot of pressure on looking good all the time. It creates this idea that if one is beautiful, he or she will be loved and accepted easily by society. We need to embrace our imperfections”.
