Fashion’s Brush with Art #1: Jaideep Mehrotra for Verve
JAIDEEP MEHROTRA
“My aim was to give her an ethereal look.”
FIRST REACTION ON SEEING KALKI’S IMAGE
“Diaphanous”.
THE INSPIRATION AND THOUGHT BEHIND HIS ARTISTIC CREATION
“Though I was given a photograph to work with, I wanted to include my current obsession of decoding a digitised world with the perception of reality. That is why I decided to create the image using a painted surface as well as a layer of text. The design is an extension of her clothes, which along with the golden hue on her skin, aims to give her an ethereal look. The text reads: “Obviate to see clearly. Lines by Jaideep Mehrotra.”
THE FUSION OF ART, FASHION AND PHOTOGRAPHY
“All are creative expressions and when combined, could give serendipitous results.”
In the course of 40-plus years, Jaideep Mehrotra evolved a unique style, starting out with works in oils, acrylics and cast resin sculptures. He pioneered the use of digital art in the country, diversifying into an amalgam of painting and computer-generated imagery and video art. He is rated amongst India’s finest inventive contemporary artists and has had 22 solo exhibitions and numerous group representations, both in India and abroad. His works form part of the collections of prestigious companies and individuals all over the world.
