D:OH

Kamala Mills is home to over 40 new restaurants. Keeping pace with the Indian millennial’s growing exposure to outdoor dining, DeGustibus hospitality (that also owns renowned spaces like Indigo, Indigo Deli, Neel and Tote on the Turf) have added their own flavourful self-service restaurant to the scene.

D:Oh, the infamous catchphrase used by Homer Simpson from the long-running American sitcom The Simpsons, lends its name to this comfort-styled eatery. “We’ve created D:OH! to embody the quick-pick-me-up-ness of today’s generation. And it is the brand’s personality that really breaks new ground.’ says Anurag Katriar, director at DeGustibus.

A cross between Indigo Deli and Neel, D:Oh harbours a quirky environment that morphs into an artsy hideout by day, and a casual hangout by night. A convenient spot for people who enjoy solo meals, the vibe is unhurried and the food, comforting. The crisp white decor has a pop of green unusual furniture and huge cozy booths, a true reflection of the restaurant’s’ relaxed and casual ethos. (Along with the cutlery present on each table, there are all also plastic fan pipes that hope to add a bit of 90s nostalgia to your meal.)

The appetisers offer a great, unfussy mix. We started with wicked fries, accompanied by freshly prepared house sauces. The crispy sriracha chicken tenders should be had with the michelada — a Mexican-inspired beer cocktail. It is infused with spices and somehow every sip manages to surprise the palate. We moved on to the signature lamb burger. The meats are undoubtedly their forte, reminding you that this is exactly how food should taste like. A precursor to the main course, the sesame prawn and scallion dumplings show subtle Asian flavours, and yet make an impact.

The Burmese khow suey is a promising item on the menu — filled with a very consoling coconut curry, noodles, and prawn. If you’re looking for old-school cuisine, try the Bombay baida roti — a crispy paratha stuffed with chicken kheema, egg and a generous dose of veggies.

American actor William Powell made a very relatable statement about dessert when he said, ‘It is probably the most important stage of the meal, since it will be the last thing your guests remember before they pass out all over the table.’ So, we recommend that you end your meal with the nutella-infused pretzel freakshake, for an experience that will stay with you long after you leave the restaurant.
