Style Fabricator
Tanya Ghavri’s inspirations come from her childhood dream of travelling the world to study its cultures and costumes. “It’s interesting how every city has something beautiful and unique which also translates into the local fashion sense. Movies, including Indian and world cinema, are a great muse too.”
An alumnus of Parsons School of Design in New York, her work experience includes several films, calendar shoots for Dabboo Ratnani, Fashion Weeks and print ads including the upcoming Electrolux ad for Sonam Kapoor, Veet for Katrina Kaif, promotions of Heroine and the recent LFW with Kareena Kapoor, style spreads in magazines for Aishwarya Rai Bachchan amongst others. Her best feedback comes from her friends and fashion blogs that are quick to act as critics.
Her personal style “is on the androgynous side. An easy jacket, buttoned up shirts and shorts with lace up boots and oxfords are my staple. I love accessories on the people I style but you would hardly find any on me”.
A day in her life includes a lot of planning, research, sourcing, fittings and meetings. “Shoot days are long but the least tiring because all the work is done earlier.” A day off means, “spending time at home with my mother, sister and dog. I don’t like going out!” Tanya wants to work on “an amazing costume drama film and start a styling consultancy for people from all walks of life”.
