Dressing Up The Stars
A father who is a producer, a sister who is a model and an aunt who is an actor, Sonaakshi Raaj isn’t a stranger to Bollywood. She is known to have turned down several movie offers that came her way. “I’ve never been inclined towards acting because I can’t see myself doing anything else other than designing.”
Before she found a platform at Lakmé Fashion Week in 2012, it was her assisting Bollywood’s Manish Malhotra, post her graduation, which really gave her that push. Since then she has displayed collections that mesmerise on the ramp. “My journey has been fantastic so far. I have built a good market in India and overseas. People are excited about my stuff and awareness about my brand is increasing,” Sonakshi gushes. Over the years, the likes of Sonam Kapoor, Shraddha Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, and Deepika Padukone have been spotted in her creations.
It was actually the very popular sari-gown that made it to many a conversation last year, which was her real claim to creative fame. Now she is working on her second invention. “My style is very western oriented and I love couture. So considering the fact that Indian silhouettes have a hot market in our country I am creating a concoction of western infusion blending into Indian sensibilities.”
