Cool Charmer

Text by Shreya Shah.

Small screen VJ, Rhea Chakraborty turns on the charm in her debut Hindi flick, Mere Dad Ki Maruti

All of 20 years old, Rhea Chakraborty believes that destiny has played her a good hand of cards. When she was the runner-up in MTV’s TVS Scooty Teen Diva competition, MTV asked her to be a VJ in shows like Gone In 60 Seconds and Pepsi MTV Wassup.

Having debuted in a Telugu film Tuneega Tuneega, Rhea entered Bollywood with the fresh romcom, Mere Dad Ki Maruti, produced by the youth division of Yashraj, Y-films. She says candidly, “I feel extremely blessed and lucky and kind of cool actually! It’s the best I could have asked for… there’s a lot of respect for everybody – big or small here.”

Rewinding to her family’s concerns about her decision to embark on a somewhat uncertain career in show business, she remarks, “Even though they hesitated for a bit before letting me give up on a career in science, they believed in me and my choice and shifted with me to Mumbai.” Not your regular pretty young thing about town, she likes being at home whenever she gets a break from her hectic schedule. And the future? “I dream of creating a fantastic career, owning a house in Mumbai and making my parents proud!”
