Power Women: Pratyusha Banerjee

Young women who have caught our attention and are set to further impact the world around them…

Pratyusha Banerjee, 20

Drama and cultural activities during her school days in Jamshedpur were her only exposure to acting, but ever since she stepped into the shoes of young Anandi in Balika Vadhu – Kachchi Umar Ke Pakke Rishte, Color’s top-rated soap, Pratyusha Banerjee has won the hearts of millions of television viewers, with her expressive eyes and persuasive tone. Selected through an SMS poll, this trained Kathak dancer and professional classical singer has already bagged a few awards for her role as the outspoken child bride to oust all traditionally regressive social evils including the still prevalent practice of child marriage. When she sent her resumé to the production house, little did she know that they were looking for the main lead. It was only during the final voting that she learnt, that if she won she would be playing Anandi’s role.

Playing the role of a protagonist who mirrors the state of several young girls in India, especially Rajasthan, is like walking the thin line with courage.

Mumbai calling
She has been living in the city of dreams for some time now but, for someone who hails from a small town, living alone and working in Mumbai is quite an experience and a difficult one too.
