Small town, big dreams

If there is one word that defines this striking model-turned-actor, it is balance. “There were times when I used to think only with my heart or my mind, but time has indeed taught me a lot,” says Nandish Sandhu, the quintessential Veer of Uttaran.

So then what does his extempore resolve, to marry co-star Rashmi Desai (the vamp in the serial) have to say about his decision making skills? “I proposed to Rashmi two months before we got married and while I agree that this is the most spontaneous that I have ever been, I am glad that I married her,” he smiles. Although Rashmi continues to stay with her parents, the couple has already started planning together for their future.

Surprisingly, the thought of being stuck in the image of a role doesn’t scare Nandish. “In the television industry, it takes around two years to be recognised as an actor and now that I have established myself, I shall soon expand my avenues to theatre and movies,” says the Punjabi lad from Rajasthan, who in his struggling days has spent hours in front of the mirror, striking the right poses as he dreamt of the ‘lights-camera-action’ sequence on sets.

With success, Nandish misses his modelling days when he used to run around town with friends for auditions and at the end of the day sit by a roadside tea stall, sipping cutting chai, followed by long bike rides at night.

Not many know about his passion for wildlife photography, for shooting in the wild is the first thing he wants to do the minute he takes a break from television!
