Power Giver: Namita Krul-Taneja

She has been recognised for her contribution to the economic empowerment of women and has said, ‘Let’s get linked not ranked.’ Namita Krul-Taneja finds a spot on Verve’s International Impact list this year

The Netherlands-based daughter of an Indian diplomat was one of a handful of Indians and those of Indian-origin to be presented the 2013 TIAW World of Difference 100 Award by Lisa Kaiser Hickey, president of the US-headquartered International Alliance for Women that ferrets out persons from all continents who have contributed to the economic empowerment of women. The director of New Yardsticks, a company that assesses projects to alleviate poverty, is also the co-founder of WORK+SHELTER, a social enterprise in India that provides a secure environment and fair trade work for underprivileged women. Born in Australia, the now Dutch national is an alumnus of Rotterdam’s Erasmus University and a banker by profession.

First jobs: A nurse; corporate loan manager.

Cherished moments: Hugs of the women in the shelter whenever she visits Delhi.
