The jewellery designer’s label is all about minimal, comfortable and versatile accessories

Handcrafted in sterling silver, Misho’s lightweight statement pieces are its USP. Suhani Parekh’s journey from studying fine art at Goldsmiths, London to creative director of the jewellery label has been an organic one. Having predominantly worked with sculptures while at university, her works gradually shifted from the plinth to the body — and that led to the birth of Misho.

Moulded as “modern architecture for the body,” Suhani Parekh’s collections are constructed using a mix of contemporary and traditional techniques. “One could describe it as modern, yet understated and sophisticated. Our design sensibility could be defined as ‘Bauhaus meets Japan’,” says the 25-year-old. Lustrous, malleable and beautiful, is how Suhani describes silver, her material of choice. “Once you a get a grasp of its nature, there’s very little you can’t create with it. I love that it’s a white metal, it’s almost like a blank canvas.”

While Bauhaus has influenced the way each piece becomes an expression of craft, artists such as Brancusi, Noguchi and others have informed her experiments. “I love the way the Bauhaus school brought art, design, craft and architecture into a single space…. Mostly, the school’s philosophy of bridging the gap between art and design is what I find most interesting.”

Misho’s creations too lie on the line that separates art and design. They are characterised by clean architectural lines and simplified geometric shapes. Says the Mumbai girl, “It’s all about rejuvenating design for everyday life.”
