For Nupur Sagar and Zara Karanjia Mishra, the glam and gloss of the fashion world goes hand in hand with insane working hours, high pressure, loads of stress, tantrums and a lot of unexpected surprises but there’s nothing else in the world they’d rather be doing. Heading the fashion department of the stage management company, On Cue Productions, they are “involved with working with the models, choreographers, designers and make-up teams. Everything from booking the model to ensuring they get paid is our responsibility. Prior to the event we work closely with the choreographers and discuss the model list, decide what the models will wear, set up the green room, book the dressers, stylists and ironing men, handle the catering requirements for the entire crew and cue the models or performers on stage,” says Nupur. With such a hectic schedule, a major challenge is juggling their professional and personal lives, finds Zara. “The hardest part of our job is that the show must go on irrespective of what’s going on in our personal lives. There’s no scope for error or slacking off,” adds Nupur. But the thrill and exhilaration of working with renowned designers and artists and the sheer excitement of being responsible for some truly memorable shows make it all worth it.
