Ahmedabad based NID graduate Digvijay Singh begins his organic fashion odyssey

Digvijay Singh has always been eco-conscious, from the sound of it. “Initially, I worked mostly with khadi for my collections,” he says. And then a collaboration with Bhusattva’s Jainam Kumarpal brought home both the beauty and the urgency of working with rare and unusual fibres. “Orange, pineapple, banana,” he says, and adds, tongue in cheek, “The experience has been very fruitful.” Indeed, the response to his collection, which garnered a fair bit of attention at Lakmé Fashion Week this year, has been nothing short of “overwhelming. People understand the value of organic productions. They prefer it if they get a choice.” It’s heartening news, not just for the planet, but also for Singh – a painter and chef when he isn’t designing – who knows that there’s a long, long journey ahead. “I have only just entered the world of organic processes,” he says. May he live long and prosper there.
