Wanderlust

Text by Wyanet Vaz

Not all those who wander are lost, believe Avani Patel and Manjari Verma as they design getaways, off the beaten path

There are stories of meeting soulmates on the social network. And then there is Avani Patel who closely followed Manjari Verma’s timeline on Facebook, only to be enchanted by her travel pictures. A string of ‘likes’ and comments created a friendship bound by a penchant for adventure, and after passing the compatibility test, they started Broken Compass. “Our first big Broken Compass group trip was to the Valley of Flowers in Uttarakhand,” they pluck out memories of planning thematic trips to off-beat yet fascinating locations.

“We were able to gain access to one of the Greek Santorini islands for a couple, arranged for a white horse to ride them to a private beach – all for a quiet romantic lunch,” recount the girls who are well-connected with locals across the globe.

“We should be known for the quality of service we provide, and the fun, experiential holidays we plan,” opines Manjari. The best part about working together is “complementing each other. Manjari is strong in the areas where I am weak,” says Avani, whose dream is to climb Mount Kilimanjaro. As for Manjari who is a mixed bag traveller, “ideally and greedily, I’d like to see the whole world before I die!”
