On the inspiration for The Merchant Princess
It comes from experiences of travel, tales of family sojourns, the architectural grandeur of our own ancestral homes and the picturesque panorama of lush gardens. The collection sees influences from the Indian colonial era. The Merchant Princess is a living montage of the whimsical events our muse has witnessed and all the beautiful people that have stirred her heart along the way.
Weaving tales of magic
The collection is a perfect mix of heavily embellished raw silk lehengas, kalidaar jackets, cutwork blouses, shararas, floor sweeping gowns and magnificent sarees for women and structured sherwanis and bandi jackets for men. It boasts an amalgamation of day and evening wear along with transition looks. Traditional zardozi and aari work have been extensively used in glass pipes, zari, beads and Dabka to illustrate the combination of varied styles that have moulded our inspiration.
Out with the old
From the colours to the intricate handwork from the erstwhile Indian colonial era, this collection is quite different from the ones we have presented in previous seasons. Hand embroidered artisanal zardozi and aari work on traditional material have been given an unconventional treatment which you will see on the runway in a few hours.
A piece from the collection for the Verve woman
In fact, there are three that I would recommend for the spirited and classy Verve woman:
1. The crop firework lehenga with the bold floral jacket is a fresh take on the traditional floor-length lehengas.
2. The tiered blouse and tulle capes that can add character to a simple sari or lehenga.
3. The cartouche lehenga with its floor sweeping cape that makes an entrance all on its own.
