On designing
“I have been surrounded by textiles my whole life as my father works in the industry. I used to get clothes made for myself and even though I pursued a degree in economics, I was drawn to the idea of design.”

About Anuk

“My label involves simple silhouettes in fine fabrics and we use lots of bold colour contrasts.”

Design aesthetic
“Less is more! Sri Lanka is a tropical country with high humidity levels. Our clothes need to be comfortable. I’d like my designs to be able to transition from workwear to partywear and then to beachwear during the weekend.”

Inspiration
“Our island is full of colour and natural light, it feels like a playground. Also, I’m surrounded by very different, strong, individualistic women who inspire me every day.”

Vision for your label
“Women have such beautiful, myriad body types. I’d love to be known one day as someone who caters to them all.”

Favourite pieces
“The Jesse pants are great for any occasion. The Anikah kimono from the new collection is slowly growing on me and I have a feeling it’s going to be a staple.”

Favourite Indian designer
“Abraham & Thakore.”
