The Skin Whisperers

Text by Faye Remedios

The who’s who of the celebrity world are happy to leave the fate of their complexions in their trusty hands. We get all the scoop from these top dermatologists about their beauty secrets and the skin treatments that have earned them a cult following.

Apratim Goel

What are her credentials: Skincare is her craft and you need to spend only a few minutes with Dr Apratim Goel, MD, Cutis Skin Solution, Mumbai, to see just how passionate she is about it. Upbeat and refreshingly real, she discovered the lure of this field after graduating in dermatology from Kasturba Medical College Manipal, and despite the societal pressure to opt for neurosurgery, she stuck to her guns by choosing to specialise in dermatology, venereology and leprology and has also completed courses in lasers and aesthetic procedures like Botox and fillers.

What is her most popular treatment: She just started offering a revolutionary DNA treatment, where the DNA cells are extracted from the patients’ blood. Just like your fingerprints, this is unique to an individual, and post extraction, the DNA is formulated into a home care cream, which the person applies daily at night. DNA reverses ageing and this works well for those suffering from pigmentation, sagging and dull skin. She also looks forward to developing products with additives and enhancers in accordance with the zodiac signs.

What are her beauty pet peeves: People with opinions on skincare and the plethora of advice from well-meaning but unqualified ‘experts’ that she believes can cause irreparable damage to your skin. For Goel, there’s no shortcut to looking good and if you’re serious about looking flawless, she insists that you cannot take a break from your routine, which includes having a qualified dermatologist take charge of your regime.
