13 Haute Watches For Every Fashionista

Text by Simone Louis

Verve presents the most fashionable timepieces from this year’s trendsetting watch fairs, plus a ‘smart’ round-up of the newest tech-happy tickers

Ever since its inception, the art of watchmaking has continually pushed the boundaries of design, skill and the use of materials. And, it is at the world’s two major watch events, namely SIHH and Baselworld, that one gains an insight into the newest and most innovative developments in the world of timekeeping.

For anyone who has ever pondered over the relationship between horology and haute couture, this year’s fairs had all the answers. Distinct trends came to light, from the affinity for aqua and brown hues and the discovery of uncommon materials, to the celebration of fashion or runway favourites and the rise of the skeletonised dial. Read on to discover our hand-picked selection of the most fashionable finds for the year 2015.

DIOR
Marrying the haute couture art of feather-making with watchmaking technology, the Dior VIII Grand Bal “Cancan” evokes the swish and whirl of a dancer’s skirt. The luscious blue alligator strap gets even swankier with a semi-matte finish.

TISSOT
A skeleton worthy of mention is the Tissot Bridgeport Mechanical Skeleton pocket watch, which proudly exhibits the brand’s heritage. In addition to its vintage allure, the watch is Tissot’s first hunter-case model to be driven by a skeletonised movement.

RADO
Rado has proved to be a game-changer with unique materials, and the ceramic expert now graces us with the HyperChrome Automatic Chronograph XXL Tachymeter, featuring the highly durable, scratch-resistant and sleek Plasma Ceramic. The pioneering material lends a glossy gunmetal colour to the timepiece and is offset by PVD accents…making it very hard to resist.

SALVATORE FERRAGAMO
Inspired by the Vara bow, an iconic symbol of the Ferragamo brand, Varina is a cocktail watch that can be worn at almost any shindig. The case is reminiscent of the buckle on the famed ballet flat while the strap complements the pleasant colour tones of the watch.
