Raising the Bar With Sanya V. Jain
What inspired you to start SVJ?
My family has been in the leather business for a very long time and I discovered my inclination towards design at a young age. What really motivated me to start my own label is the lack of Indian bag brands which pay attention to the quality, texture and richness of the raw material used. I wanted to start a brand which is luxurious but comes at a very affordable price using the highest quality of leather and craftsmanship.
On her personal style
I follow my instinct. If I were to describe my style, I would say that it is contemporary and chic but always comfortable. I also believe in being dressed for the occasion.
I like luxurious and practical bags. My favourite brands are Hermès , Chanel, Nancy Gonzalez and Mansur Gavriel.
I like most designers and love mixing them up. I love Stella McCartney, Christopher Kane and Balmain, all of which fit me like a glove…or I prefer Celine and The Row when I want to wear a more sport-chic, easy-to-wear look.
What are you looking forward to?
I’m really excited about my next collection. We have very chic bags that are hand-painted in beautiful colours and inspired by strong female personalities.
