Unbuttoning Purab Kohli

Text by Wyanet Vaz

As the spirted actor designs his first collection for Bombay Shirt Company, we get a wild card entry into his closet and personal side

As part of their series of associations, Bombay Shirt Company teamed up with Purab Kohli to design an exclusive capsule collection. Akshay Narvekar, the founder of BSC, sums up the concept of guest designers saying, ‘The idea behind capsule collections is to have various creative personalities display their unique take on styling a collection.’

The popular VJ-cum-TV-and-film-actor is kicked about this collaboration and we love the outcome. Adding his usual breeziness to the collection, you can choose between plaids to basic distress prints. Since he also prefers throwing on a shirt over a casual tee, the collection slants towards perky layering.

In a playful conversation with Verve, Purab Kohli lets us into his wardrobe, as we discover his must-haves, memories and bucket lists

1. Your wardrobe staples… “A good pair of blue jeans, white shirt, solid black and white tees.”

2. You can’t do without… “Nowadays it’s my beard trimmer.”

3. Something new in your wardrobe… “My 10 new BSC shirts.”

4. What do women find most attractive about you? “You tell me?”

5. A current obsession… “A good pair of jeans. I get attached to one every now and then and wear it all the time.”

6. Three things that make you happy… “A place I have not been to before, an oblivious child, and an animal being unaware.”

7. Your wardrobe favourites… “My Fantastic Man perfume, Lucchese 1883 boots, and a brand new linen shirt.”

8. If you weren’t an actor, you would have been… “I used to say farmer, but now I think a director.”

9. You can’t stand… “Idiotic ignorance topped with arrogance. If you don’t know, be humble about it and you’ll learn.”

10. Your top three travel destinations… “The Himalayas (from Kashmir to Arunachal), Istanbul, and the Amalfi Coast.”

11. A favorite summer memory… “Goa in the 80s. You can’t even imagine what I’ve seen Baga beach like in 1983-84.”

12. On your bucket list… “Make a feature film, visit Central and West Africa, do a long haul flight on an A-380, learn to paraglide, be able to sit in a proper padmasan (not necessarily in that order).”
